ANDREAS LARSSON and MARKUS DEL MONEGO tasted the Champagne HENRI GIRAUD for TASTED JOURNAL
Elected “Best Sommelier of the World 2007” ANDREAS LARSSON gives 92 points over 100 to the Cuvee HOMMAGE A FRANCOIS HEMART AY GRAND CRU.
With MARKUS DEL MONEGO, they rate this magnificent cuvee: 3rd of the Non Vintage Category. Here are their comments:ANDREAS LARSSON : Medium to deep golden color. Traditional style with notes of oxidation and oak, ripe with a lot of Pinot aromas, red berries and autolytic notes. The palate is very full and creamy with layers of fruit, very attractive complexity, structure and length, nutty and mature aftertaste. A champagne wih a lot of character and substance. 92 ptsMARKUS DEL MONEGO : Intense golden color. The nose reveals intense aromas of ripe pear, brioche and vanilla. Very traditional style with a well integrated oxidation. On the palate creamy texture, fine mousseux and well balanced character. Presumably coming from great terroir. 92
In the “TOP 15 OF THEIR BEST PICKS” these two great Sommeliers give 92.5 points to this “NON VINTAGE AY GRAND CRU” and rate it amongst the greatest VINTAGE CUVEES of Champagne.CLAUDE GIRAUD : Cuvee produced as a tribute to the Ancestor of my Family, GIRAUD-HEMART, established in Aÿ since the 17th century.- Pinot Noir and Chardonnay exclusively produced on the terroir of Aÿ Grand Cru, on the middle of the slopes where the erosion shows the famous “Chalk of Belemnites*”, white diamond of Champagne.- The wine-making technique is modern and pure, unique in Champagne, for a better expression of the terroir : Decanting at cold temperature straight out of the press (8°C), fermentation at low temperature (13°), Vinification and ageing on full lees (without decanting or airing) in vat or small oak barrel from the forest of ARGONNE*.
* Belemnites: Sea Fossils from the cretaceous era.
* Argonne: historical forest of Champagne.
